I have officially reached a milestone. Callisto finally has an official outfit reference sheet! It’s also a full redesign for Chapter 3. I was interested in pulling from a more mysterious fantasy aesthetic for Callisto in GLASS KING~ His leather sleeveless vest also leaves his chest and arms fully uncovered, signaling a readjustment after finding his old clothes too restrictive.
Callisto is wearing an asymmetrical dark grey cloak with tattered fabric towards the bottom. On his right shoulder there’s a single pauldron made of bone. Draped around both shoulders and falling down his back, is a cloying, thin, flowering moss. In his old, unofficially referenced design, Callisto used to have a fur ruff on an symmetrical cloak with pointy pauldrons, but now Callisto’s old fur ruff on his cloak has been replaced with Tillandsia usneoides, aka “Spanish moss.” Being from MA, I had never seen it before, but I finally encountered some in New Orleans, Louisiana, this past year. I thought Callisto would like it too. It has a gently macabre texture, and it’s also very mysterious to watch swaying in the breeze. It’s a resilient plant, yet it’s made of many delicate interlocking flowers. Callisto is truly resilient, and although he’s all about slaughter, he contains an undercurrent of somber interconnectedness with the dead. This is the perfect plant to represent him.
